Privacy policy

Prompt Teardown ("we", "us") runs promptteardown.com and the email newsletter of the same name. This page explains what is collected, who else can see it, and how to make it stop. Questions go to [email protected].

What we collect

When you subscribe

Your email address, and nothing else that is required. If you answer a reader survey, we keep those answers too. Subscription data is stored and sent by beehiiv, our email platform, which records opens, clicks, and the date you joined.

When you visit the site

Standard analytics: pages viewed, referring site, approximate location from your IP address, device and browser type, and time on page. This is aggregate. We do not try to work out who you are from it.

When you email us

Whatever you put in the email. Messages are kept so we can answer them and refer back later.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser. This site and its partners use them for four jobs: remembering you have seen the newsletter popup, measuring traffic, crediting whoever referred you, and serving advertising.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. The site works without them, though some things will repeat themselves.

Advertising

This site carries third-party display advertising. Ad vendors, including Google, use cookies and device identifiers to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visit to this site or other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings.

To opt out of personalized advertising from many vendors at once, use the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out or Your Online Choices in Europe. Third-party vendors we do not control may also serve ads on this site, and their own privacy policies govern what they collect.

Affiliate links

Some links to tools and products are affiliate links, tracked through impact.com. If you buy something after clicking one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Impact's tag runs sitewide to attribute those clicks. A commission never buys a good review. Anything recommended here was used first.

Who else processes your data

Each of these has its own privacy policy. We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask what data we hold on you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Email [email protected] with "privacy" in the subject and we will action it within 30 days.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, our lawful basis is consent for marketing email and legitimate interest for basic analytics and site security. You can withdraw consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in any issue.

If you are in California, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to have it deleted, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information. Exercising these rights will never get you worse service.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and it will be deleted.

Security and retention

Data is held only as long as it is useful. Unsubscribe and your address is removed from the active list, though beehiiv keeps a suppression record so we cannot accidentally mail you again. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot promise otherwise.

Changes to this policy

When this changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes to how the newsletter uses your data will be announced in an issue.
